“This podcast is thought-provoking and informative for producers from all walks of life.”
About the Podcast
Girls Twiddling Knobs hit the podcast world in November 2020 as a response to a lack of music tech resources focussed towards women and gender non-conforming people. Since then, the podcast has garnered 90K downloads, an active community of 2K+ members, a Lovie Awards shortlist and 70+ five star reviews from fans of all genders.
Nuanced and intimate interviews between some of the most innovative artists making music with technology (Hannah Peel, Bishi, NikNak, Gazelle Twin, NTX) are interspersed with solo deep dives with host and Executive Producer, Isobel Anderson, into the stats, industry context and individual stories that bring voice to the experiences of women in music technology today, highlighting conversations that usually only ever take place between women out of ear-shot.
Season six will build on these heart-felt and thought-provoking conversations...
With guests including 2024 Oram Award winners xname, Lola De La Mata and The Silver Field, contemporary folk and electronic music duo Fran & Flora, electronic music producer Maria Uzor, Palestinian experimental musician Maya Al Khaldi and many more.
There will also be a season finale special with renowned composers Shiva Feshareki and Sarah Angliss documenting their compositional approach to a new commission from The Science Museum Group.
What our listeners are saying...
Meet your host, Isobel Anderson
Between her 20+ years making, performing and producing music, a PhD in Sonic Arts and a passion for creating supportive music tech education spaces for women, Isobel's career embraces a sense of independence and experimentation.
Her four solo albums have amassed nearly 30 million Spotify streams, her sound works have been performed on international stages and she has published in academic journals, such as Organised Sound and The Journal of Sonic Studies. Threaded throughout her work is a fascination with how we make sense of ourselves, the world around us and the process of creative exploration itself.
